A skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file. Claude Code reads project skills from .claude/skills/<name>/SKILL.md. Install one version with aipm add @scope/name@version --target claude, then review the files.

Install into Claude Code

AIPM writes .claude/skills/<name>/SKILL.md. Run this from the project folder, then read the files it adds.

aipm add @scope/name@version --target claude

What AIPM does differently

  • You install a named version, such as @scope/name@1.2.0. The project file aipm.package.json remembers it, so the next person gets the same skill.
  • AIPM writes the skill files into the repo. You can read them before anyone relies on them.
  • The same skill can be installed for Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex. Change the --target flag and the folder changes with it.

How do I install a skill for Claude Code with AIPM?

From the project folder, run aipm add @scope/name@version --target claude. AIPM writes .claude/skills/<name>/SKILL.md and records the version in aipm.package.json.

Where does Claude Code load project skills from?

From .claude/skills/<name>/SKILL.md in the repo. Skills for every project on your machine live in ~/.claude/skills/. Anthropic's docs list more folders, including plugins. This page is the short map plus the install command.

Can I use the same skill in Cursor or Codex?

Yes. Install it again with --target cursor or --target codex. Each flag writes the folder that tool reads. Cursor also reads .claude/skills, so a Claude Code install is often visible in Cursor too.

Does this page replace Anthropic's skill docs?

No. Anthropic's docs are the full list of folders and settings. Use this page to compare Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex, and to install a skill with AIPM.

How does a team keep the same version?
